What is VNC ?
VNC (Virtual Network Computing) is a freely distributed remote control software developed by ATT Labatories in Cambridge. The VNC is a cross-platform open source software that allows remote control between different types of computers. In addition to using the VNC Viewer, any Java-capable browser can also be used as a viewer.
Where to download VNC ?
VNC can be downloaded from RealVNC. We recommend that you download the "Full Installation" (server and viewer) as well as the "Viewer Program Only". Instructions to install and configure the VNC Server are shown below.
Step 1:
Locate and execute the VNC software that you downloaded to begin to install VNC Server. It is safe to accept the default values until you get to the "VNC Server Properties" screen.

Step 2:
Now that the installation is almost complete, the installer will open up the VNC Server Properties screen. Press the "Password" button to set a password that will be used when establishing a VNC viewer connection to the VNC server.

Step 3:
After entering the password, press the "Ok" button.
Step 4:
Now go to the "Desktop" tab to make some additonal configuration changes. Select "Remove Wallpaper" and "Remove background pattern".
Now press the "Apply" to apply the changes followed by pressing the "Ok" buttons to close the properties screen.

Step 5:
Finish the installation process by accepting the default settings as shown below

Step 6:
How to verify that VNC Server is running:
In the SystemTray (Lower right hand corner by the system clock) you should see a "VNC" icon. This indicates that the VNC Server is now running. Since VNC is configured to run as a service, there is no need to start VNC each time you restart the computer. As a service, VNC will start automatically.
To learn how to use the VNC Viewer application, see Knowledge Base Article 0009.
