Centurion II Intelligent Remote Monitor

The WS1800 is a very cost effective solution designed to meet the growing need for smaller and more flexible remote monitoring solutions. The flexible and expandable Centurion II Alarm Monitor is an intelligent Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) that can locate problems in the telecommunications central office and all its remote facilities. The Centurion II’s exceptional troubleshooting capability extends beyond the network device to external factors outside the network that are often overlooked as the source of problems. These include facility and environmental elements – such as temperature and relative humidity, fire suppression systems, intelligent HVAC, power supply, and security systems – factors that are not usually monitored or are monitored separately from the network. Because the Centurion II manages environmental conditions and all remote facilities that feed into the central office – such as huts, CEV’s and POP’s – network operators are better equipped to proactively locate problems before service to the customer is affected.

Remote Advantages

The Centurion II collects alarms through discrete contact-closure inputs and serial protocols including TBOS and TABS. With relay outputs to provide the ability to issue controls, the Centurion II reports to host network management systems via SNMP over TCP/IP or via TL-1 over modem dial-up, and can be configured remotely using a Win98/NT/XP-based utility. This configuration includes network parameters, as well as alarm point definitions, such as description, severity and CLLI. Service providers can monitor facility devices using the intelligent remote monitor’s contact inputs, and can monitor electrical current, temperature, relative humidity, and air and water pressure sensors using its analog inputs. From the NOC, an operator is then able to communicate with the device as though locally connected through a laptop, while managing the device over the existing data communication network (DCN). In addition to remote visibility via the LAN for up to 16 concurrent users, the Centurion II has a front-panel craft port interface, which allows authorized site personnel to issue TL-1 commands or view autonomous TL-1 messages. An optional front-panel LCD display gives you enhanced local visibility to standing alarms and system status.

Advanced Alarm Collection

Its advanced alarm collection capabilities make the Centurion II a key element within a NOC environment. This versatile monitor can act as an intelligent network element, or as a mediation device for collecting alarms from older, yet reliable, legacy equipment. It can also be configured to replace lower level RTUs in various legacy applications. With the broad spectrum of configuration options available, Centurion II deployment eliminates the need to maintain multiple RTU types.
